In my opinion, Saxons being added to the game is really great Like many of you, I have been a little lukewarm and ambivalent towards the expansion and the splitting of the Vikings into so many niche sub-civilizations. The last time I felt this way with the 3K expansion I ended up loving the Jurchens and Khitans and loathing the 3K civs. Maybe I am anxious I will feel the same way after this expansion. Having said that, I feel really confident and thankful about the Saxons. I recently watched a video Ornlu posted about how often we might expect to see Sagas civilizations in the existing campaigns, and realized Saxons are a very common recurring faction. They exist in some form in nearly every European early medieval campaign in the game going back to AoK. In fact, if you go through the Wikipedia page of Saxon society, warfare, and history, it is surprisingly (or maybe unsurprisingly) extremely detailed and thorough, with enduring contact with nearly every single west European power during their heyday, and nearly all historical accounts understand them as their own self-possessed people. It’s not like many other civilizations in the game which rely on speculation or vague accounts or marginal identity splitting. To me, this lends credence to the idea that they really are kind of an overlooked distinct civilization. Maybe it sounds crazy, but that's kind of a big deal to me. I like that in terms of history, geography, and design space, they are defensible. It legitimizes them being in the game for me. The Danes, and Varangians (which I'm least sold on) are exciting as well, but the justification will always feel more lacking to me I think.

Jokes aside but those BfG and AtG campaigns are NUTS ❗️ (even though the Alexander one was too short and could easily be even 30 scenarios if they added more missions for Thracians and Puru). The Chronicles Campaign design is really one of a kind and I desperately need more! PS Devs if you read this, please keep the Basic campaigns in the OG format, I don’t really like the new interface for 3K and The Last Chieftains, we have Chronicles for that!

An almost 1h game where both me and my opponent had the same gold count. I just found it funny and I do wonder what are the chances of this happening. I'm guessing it can occur when games are very evenly matched.

Last time I tried a couple of weeks ago it wasn't working. Does anyone know if it's working now? I ask because it's quite a pain to install, also it could be useful for others too know. Btw I know you can play on mac native but I want cross play with my friends on windows.

Many of the campaigns, from Age of Kings to The Last Chieftans are excellent scenarios reflecting historical battles (sometimes not that accurately) in a range of gameplay. However, there may be something in regards to a scenario that you may feel is not quite right. Is it gameplay or historical accuracy? Hi All, I've just been trawling through the game files that contain unit data and in-game text, and I found a couple of hints towards the design process behind the Last Chieftains civs that I thought were cool: My theory: the Champi line was originally designed with 3 members, named "runner", "warrior" and "elite warrior". A Champi Scout was introduced later as a separate, standalone unit line or possibly one-off scouting unit, like the Hunnic Horse All units and buildings are assigned numbers internally, e.g. Skirms are #7 and Imperial Age Blacksmiths are #19. Generally when a new DLC is added to the files, generic units and buildings are added as a clump, and civ unique units are added as a separate clump. In the section of units for Last Chieftains, the first entries are the Champi Scout, Champi Warrior and Elite Champi Warrior, followed by the Settlements for each age, then the various civ unique units. The Champi Runner appears after every unique unit, suggesting it may have been added late in the design process, after the civs and their unique units were already in place. This is supported by the technology area, where the Champi Runner appears after almost every other Last Chieftains technology and civ bonus (which are coded as technologies that are researched for free by the relevant civ). To what the Champi line was originally called: all units have an internal name that never appears in-game, things like "KNGHT" for Knight and "CATAP" for Cataphract. The internal names for the Champi line are the following: Champi Scout: CHAMPIR (stands for Champi Runner?) Champi Runner: CHAMPIS (stands for Champi Scout?) Champi Warrior: CHAMPIW Elite Champi Warrior: ECHAMPIW If we accept that the Champi Runner was added later than the other champi units, or at least added separately from them, it seems the original Champi line was called "Runner", "Warrior", and "Elite Warrior".
