Just for context, I started playing AoE2 back in 2001 when I was 13, and I've played on-and-off throughout different periods of my life since then. I was one of those people who eyed AoE4's rough launch with suspicion, and for the last few years I didn't have the time or a PC to actually try the game. I decided to give it a shot, and even though it took me a bit to get used to the graphics (recognizing buildings and some units) and the UI, I eventually fell in love with it. I started admiring the care and detail they put into it, the sound design, and everything that gets praised about this game here... It's a special game and I got hooked, ended up playing every day. But then I was watching a stream from a pro player from my country who's pretty hyped for Dawn of War 4. He had a bit of a meltdown after losing a 1x1, saying that at the higher levels the balance in AoE4 is bad. According to him it's all about memorizing patterns and matchups, that the game lacks micro, and in a lot of scenarios even macro doesn't matter that much. He also said the maps are trash and that most of what we play on ladder isn't even used in tournaments (where there are better maps). . And despite the balance being bad, with a rotating cast of disproportionately strong civs (Mongols early on, Sengoku, Macedonian dynasty), they keep dropping DLCs anyway. That opinion doesn't stop me from keeping on playing. I'm having fun, and that's what matters in the end. I don't expect it to be exactly like AoE2, which I know really well (and honestly I don't miss some of the micro), but the idea that it gets monotonous and stale at the higher ranks kind of kills my motivation to actually get better at the game. I'd love to hear more opinions. What you guys think about it?

Im frustrated cause steam loaded an old save file from like a few months ago, the progress i made in the last week is gone.

Is anyone having trouble signing in to servers today. Haven't been able to log in for like 20 min even tho my wifi connection is fine

i've been trying to stop the search for the last 21 minutes and the game just refuses to do so. lets disregard the fact i didnt get a match this entire time with every match option available (except 4's) is marked. every time you press the stop search , the game thinks about it for a second, and goes "nah bruv" keep up the good work devs!

Firstly I would like to say that these modded Civs exist as pure works of passion by those who created them. So a big thanks to Lammet, Hosein81, Marcokistan, and ChillyEmpire for bringing them to us! Even if I may not enjoy some of these Civs, or some aspects of them, I am very glad they exist and I can't congratulate these guys enough for their work. AoE4 is not mod friendly. You can't include new assets in the game. So these guys have really gone the extra mile to make these Civs happen. Moreover, my opinion and experience is entirely subjective. Also, I play at least 3+ games with each Civ vs AI Hard, which is usually how I play PVE. Before you ask "why no multiplayer/PVP?" . For that to happen everyone involved has to have the mod installed and I don't have friends, lol. Now let's go. Persians I think the name of the game here is Centralized State. Instead of upgrading each military unit, you upgrade your Dynasty, which improves all units. You have a weaker Spearman, but one that can build anything - even Landmarks. There is a tech called Brutal Taxation which is very interesting: decreases villager gathering speed, but makes each of them generate Gold passively. A tech that definitely ads more on that concept of Centralized State. As for unique units, they have a Camel mounter Heavy Cannonier which is really neat (how did they have that happen with in-game assets?). This is a fine Civ, with a very strong economy, especially late game. ★★★★ Crusader States Sort of Templars mixed with Ottomans. They rely on a lot of passive production, which is a tough art to master. It is a very unique, well-thought Civ. You have a weaker Villager called Pilgrim (which hilariously uses a tiny model), they cost nothing to produce and are generated passively. The idea is that this villager is a volunteer, and the more villagers you passively acquire, you receive a sort of Papal favor, which grants you a few free troops and allows you to build Landmarks. Lots of strong unique unit

Every time I turn on the game and see “the Crucible” I assumed it was like an interactive info book of some kind (not sure why I thought this). Yesterday I opened it and found out… it’s basically a survival horde mode thing with power ups and such? And wow, is it fun! If you’re bored of or intimidated by multiplayer or want a new challenge, boot it up.

Their playstyle would revolve around utilising religious bonuses, especially sacred sites, taking advantage of their enhanced mobility and using their economy to build swarms of weak but cheap units. I have added some of the early ideas for some other civs I'm working on beneath this one if you are interested. People's Crusaders: Civilisation. Focus: Religion, Mobility, Economy. Civilisation Bonuses: Crusader Campsite: The capital town centre of the people's crusaders is a large campsite which starts off with less health than a traditional town centre but gains more health as you age up. The People's Crusaders age up by adding expansions to their camp, which grants it unique bonuses and abilities. Armed Pilgrims: People's crusader units attack faster 15% when nearby captured sacred sites. First Crusaders: All People's Crusader units, including villagers and other economic units, gain +4/8/12/16% movement speed per sacred site captured. People's Crusader Military units all gain a build speed bonus of +4/8/12/16% per sacred site captured. Feudal Labourers: farms are 30% cheaper to build.
