The Vikings probably being set in stone to be more like Settlers/Great Heathen Army than Danish/Norwegians/Norse. The Danes are the Norsemen in the Scandinavian Region. The Saxons can be iffy especially because they have the Hearth Troop/Hearth Guard which both Saxons and Goths used, while the Goths still keeping the anachronistic Huskarls/Housecarl which are Scandinavians. The Varangians seems to be following the Vikings as they're not a Civilization but a group of people, though they has the same plan as Slavs since they sent their Ruling Nobility as Regular Battlefield Soldiers. Mounted Crossbowman being a Regional unit can bring a bit more differences though that is IF the Mounted Xbows is shared to the existing Civilizations like Franks, Italians and other European Civilizations either as a Cavalry Archer Replacement or an extra unit since Cavalry Archers are used in conjunction by some Civs Historically, example being the French & Burgundians who has Mounted Longbowmen and Mounted Crossbowmen. Would be pretty nice to have a split Marksmen & Crossbow type of unit where Marksmen moves faster but have lower attack than Crossbow making it more of a hit a run unit than Crossbows, but it's probably a big stretch. Longboat Longship being a Regional unit is fine though is it going to be a Regional unit OR Regional Naval Unique unit as Vikings, Danes, Saxons and Varangians will now lacks Demolition Ships. The Sharing of Unique units between Civs albeit in this time it's the Naval Unique unit can be a starting point of Regional Units being based on unique units themself, one closest Example is the Aztecs where their Jaguar Warrior is replaced by the much more Elite Quachiqueh/Shorn Ones, while the Jaguar Warriors are now available to Mayans and new DLC Civs in the Meso-American Region like the Zapotec, Totonacs, Purepecha/Tarascan, Tlaxcala, Tabasco and Chichimecs. Jaguar Warrior WITH some stat changes and NOT actual Aztec Jaguar Warriors trained in the barracks

The Viking Sagas: From World's Edge to Forgotten Empires?

Don’t let older DLCs get pushed to World’s Edge, only to become Forgotten Empires. Every DLC becomes part of the game once released. It is not a one-time product that should be forgotten when the next DLC arrives. 1. The Viking Sagas: Open Test Before Release A broader Open Test, similar to AoE3, could help identify balance and gameplay issues earlier. DLC should not be released just to maintain a schedule. Quality should come before release timing. 2. The Last Chieftains: Don’t let Ranked become the testing environment Champi Warrior is still being adjusted, showing that more Open Testing could have helped before release. Ranked should be a place for finished content, not where players experience unfinished balance changes. 3. Three Kingdoms: Don’t let older DLCs fade away Three Kingdoms is already at risk of receiving less attention as newer DLCs arrive. Small and reversible changes, such as renaming civilizations to better match their historical identity, could be a useful first step. More importantly, how Three Kingdoms is handled could become an example for future DLC improvements. I am not asking for fewer DLCs. I just hope each DLC gets enough time for testing, balancing, and refinement.

With the Vikings DLC, would an interesting water change be to allow military units to board non-transport ships

So the main idea would be that the Vikings in traditional media are seen as raiders who arrive on their ships, disembark, raid, and then embark and head off. So my idea would be; Viking longboats/longships (or all military ships for vikings) have 1-3 capacity for military units ONLY. With maybe it starting with 0/1/2/3, capacity in the ages for balancing reasons. It would make the viking gameplay very unique and would probably be busted but I think it would be very in theme for the vikings as sea-borne raiders. As an expanded change then it could be expanded to other civilisations, maybe the Romans could research the "corvus" tech and it allows them to embark a military unit into a hulk which improves its melee attack. But this seems like it would be very gamey/have balance issues. What do ye think? Would this be too drastic a change? Break the balance on water maps?

How to defend Teuton Tower Rush?
