I haven't played since launch and i haven't really kept up with all the new additions. One if my favorite archetypes in rts is the swarm. I love fast zerglings moving all over the place. I love a giant overwhelming wave of units. I dont mind playing defensively initially to get to this point i.e. zerg, and i dont mind an aggressive civ because frankly i enjoy early game more than late. Finally, i would definitely prefer the civ to be solid to strong in the current meta. Any suggestions? Appreciate it!

Even after several games I was not able to find the horseman useful to counter archs, they may be used for other purposes but not to counter archs. Edit: After reading some really useful replies (thanks for that !) , I figure out that I should mix horseman with other units to better counter spam of archs especially in late game. As title says. Has someone deepdived this new mechanic? Is there a youtube video that explains all of it? Does the buff apply also for buildings you build before the upgrade? Wat does adjecent exactly mean? Does it need to be placed exactly next to it, outlined? or is there room for 1 or 2 tiles, so u can make a row of farms later on. Does it also work with market? Does it als apply for the 1 first building of a row, or only the 2nd 3rd..? I’d love to see your findings/tips

Hi fellow gamer, I'm a decent rts player (played aoe2 for years, and aoe4 for months), I play mainly 1v1. Average Gold tier. I find it very hard to play 2 or 3v3. My aoe2 background is not working at all. (60 archers in imperial was my main build). So, what is the meta to play 2v2 and 3v3 ? Can you suggest me content where I can learn from ? Thx you !

Hey all, I never playd aoe4 og any game that is similar to this genre. I come from league of legend csgo and guild wars. But wanted to try aoe4. Ive playd english civ for around 20 games and learning to understand how to play this civ as a noob. I am looking for another civ with same simple strategy and strong early defence so i dont get wiped. Ive playd mostly 3v3 4v4 vs other humans and from the stats i am middle of the curve but i lack early game helping teammate and all that but i hope it comes later. The civs i am looking for should have easy build order and no complex mechanic like relics and priest etc. 1tc i cannot handle more than 60 workers Maximum 2 types of attacking units Strong defence early (or maybe there is a way around?) No early aggression I tried to look for guides online but mostly its only build orders. I understand games after 5min is so dynamic but i cant find a generel guide to how play the game and progress and understand when to defend/help/wall/etc. Ty for help!!

I have created a concept civilisation inspired by William Marshall, commonly referred to as the greatest knight, or the greatest knight to have ever lived. House Marshall's playstyle revolves around increasing your renown by defeating enemies, especially with your unique tournament knights, and building landmarks. As your renown grows, your people recieve bonuses making them more powerful and more efficient workers. Marshall's strength also grows as your renown increases, because each level of renown allows you to unlock a new aura bonus for Marshall, enhancing himself and those around him. But I have made sure that Marshall functions simply as a heavy cavalry unit that provides buffs to nearby units just like the English king unit. They are not intended to be a terrifying force of nature like Jeanne d'Arc. House Marshall: Civilisation / English civ variant Focus: Hero, Renown, cavalry. Civilisation Bonuses: Renown: House Marshall has a renown meter which provides skill points for Marshall and gives global buffs to House Marshall. It has 4 levels, and is generally increased by defeating enemies, destroying enemy structures, and building Landmarks. Level 1: House Marshall recieves 3 villagers at the capital town centre. Marshall gains a skill point. Level 2: All villagers return 10% more resources. Marshall gains a skill point. Level 3: Buildings are created 15% faster. Marshall gains a skill point. Level 4: All military units are produced 25% faster. Marshall gains a skill point. After level 4, each time the renown level increases, you receive 250 gold. Ransom: When defeating an enemy gold unit, House Marshall gains a gold bounty equal to 50% of the gold that was spent to make them. Chivalric Culture: Tourney knights are available in the feudal age. Island of Agriculture: Farms cost 50% less. Shipwrights: Ships cost 10% less. William Marshall: A strong heavy cavalry unit who appears at the capital tc in the feudal age. He grows in strength as House Marshall ages up

I'm not saying every map in team games should be smaller, I'm just asking for much more variety and that would imply that at least half of the maps should be smaller in teamgames. I love playing a lot of civs and it's very annoying when I pick an infantry civ and I feel that I have a kind of disadvantage. I really like cav, mounted samurais, camels, elephants, hore archers... but I think the game in team games should allow to play more infantry as well, just that. Besides, it's very tiring and boring that you usually have to boom as much as possible. This big maps encourage that. I am aware that there's a lot of hate around this so-called cav meta in teamgames but above all that there's a point. A game more diverse and varied is much more fun. There's only like 3 or 4 maps where infantry civs or more aggresive styles are as good as those cav or boom civs. I have adapted to these maps by usually playing cav civs and booming but I am getting tired of it.

One small detail from Age of Empires III that made siege units feel much more alive was the way soldiers actually carried, pushed, or dragged artillery across the battlefield. In Age of Empires IV, siege units move on their own, and while the gameplay works fine, it removes a lot of immersion. Seeing cannons, bombards, and other siege weapons being handled by soldiers made the battlefield feel more believable and cinematic. It gave weight to the units and made siege warfare feel like a real operation instead of just another moving object. This does not need to change balance or gameplay speed. Even a visual only animation where crew members appear around siege units while moving or deploying would add so much atmosphere to the game. AOE4 already has beautiful environments, unit details, and strong historical identity. Bringing back crewed siege movement would make battles feel even more grounded and visually satisfying. Please consider adding this feature back in a future visual update. It was a small thing in AOE3, but it created a big immersive effect. Many players would love to see siege units feel heavy, human operated, and more realistic again.

Jin has 2 of the production buildings at 175 wood with no bonus production speed. although you can produce multiple types of units they are stuck behind queue in expensive buildings. these big ass buildings need space outside your tc range which becomes vulnerable to torches. and it’s a big lost when burned down. the only units you can get fast with barack are spending most of their attack time going around these big ass buildings than attacking, since they are melee. grassland posts spawning also nerfs Jin by blocking the area under the TC and landmarks forcing these expensive production buildings to be built to lose. i like that devs wanting to achieve proper visual scaling between humans and buildings in the game (after ~5 years) , but making them more tiles is not the option, need to make them taller and make props spawn outside their 3*3 area to make them visually bigger . this is something other than what is already being discussed why Jin is shii…

Hello Aoe Community, so after many years of his release i finally started to Play age of Empires 4 but sadly no one in my Peer group shares the new enlighted passion i feel for this Game, so i thought lets get to know some new People. Im looking for People to have a Chat and maybe to Play some 1v1 or Team Games. Im 28 and from Germany so english is Not my native language but i think my skills are decent enough to get in touch.

Hey All, Basically the title. I noticed that the game is on sale in the PS store and few questions came up: - What is the current state of the game? Is it still active? I noticed that it is still receiving update, so I assume it is active. - How complex is the game for someone who never played this kind of RTS game? I play a fair amount in Civ 7 but aoe4 is a different genre within the RTS games as I understood. - How is the console experience? Controls, performance etc. How viable are console players in ranked games? I checked and there is crossplay with PC and XBOX players. I assume PC players are in advantage. - How are the ranked games working? It is 1v1 and you have the destroy the other players units and structures? How long is a ranked match? - At last, I read that there is MnK support on consoles but I also read that it is quite bad because of the UI no hotkeys etc. Is this still the case?
