Has anyone noticed aoe 2 was the most easy to create user scenario among aoe 2 , AoM , and AOE 3 . (Disclaimer is that i have not recently tried to create custom scenario in 2026 !) I think that factor alone makes AOE 2 more popular, since we can create custom campaign for aoe2 . The ease of making custom scenario and AI quickly adapting to resources is pretty critical. It makes it like opensource for software. For eg Stronghold crusader2 , the enemy ai places building in certain manner and sometimes there used to be hole in the walls in maps generated by user but atleast AI would adapt. Same with aoe2, for eg enemy ai adapts so easily to surrounding resources and makes buildings where as AOM and AOE 3 the villagers sits idle in custom maps . Even in that indian project of custom mods , enemy ai sits idle and hardly advance ages or if the map is ceylon , the enemy villagers stay idle. I think among all aoe games , aoe2 had the most easiest developer mode . That is why there are so many custom campaigns for aoe2 from period of caesar to china to india and many european campaign. The whole victor and vanquished campaigns from aoe2 were mostly custom campaigns from developers who made many such campaigns. Esp when aoe3 offers no historical campaigns, one of the reason aoe3 didnt grow was custom scenario didnt take off ( after no historical campaigns ).

I am a huge fan of the aoe series especially aoe 3 since I play it from when I was 7 but it makes me upset that in the aoe 3 definitive edition there isn’t a Greek civilization. So because i am from Greece and I did the only thing a reasonable 13 year – old teen in my situation would do, i come up with a concept for my country based on the Greek war of independence. Buildings · Community block : A building like the village of the Chinese. It supports 20 population and has upgrades for settlers. It costs 220 wood. It also have self-defense systems that means that every time enemies come nearby them the houses start shooting batteries one of them can be upgrade into something like a second barrack and give boosts to nearby soldiers. Also Romania, Bulgaria and Serbia can train here the Razbonic that can go into stealth mode, run to the enemy Town Center and steal their gold · Church : Now the church can train both a priest and a new unit called Metropolitan that gives a boost to units nearby and heals faster. Also, it doubles up as the secret school which offers unique upgrades for your civ. · Government : Replaces the European Capitol. Here are the best upgrades for your civilization. Also here you can train the governor which you can assign to walk around your town, boosting settlers. As he does so a group of soldiers would gather accompanying and protecting him. · Blacksmith: Instead of the arsenal, the blacksmith gives unique upgrades for only this civilization. · Livestock : Nothing has really change but can also train a special settler, shepherd who can gather food from animals faster. · Bulwark : A smaller wall with less hp but your infantry and swivel guns can be assigned to take cover behind it while firing to take, less damage. Also you can’t build too many in the row so your army can pass them because you can’t build gates. Hi guys! Have you been experiencing issues playing online after the dlc trial expired? I can barely play online. I have to wait more than 20 minutes to face someone in the ranking ladder, and the online rooms are always empty. Do you know how can I fix it???

So I am learning Italy and I am wondering if there's any reason to build more than one basilica. There are cards and upgrades that increase the build limit, but I don't see any reason to invest into more than one. Am I just stupid?

It seems to me that some of the content in TBP is focused on providing a smooth landing for players new to Aoe3 (which I am not complaining about!), specifically Independence Mode and to a lesser extent Denmark. A number of people have expressed concern that it's counterproductive to have Independence Mode especially be locked behind the TBP paywall, since most new players are probably going to try the base game first before investing in DLC, so won't have access to Independence Mode. On the other hand, I can see that dev time has gone into the new content, so they want to see sales from that content to justify their efforts. That's why I'm suggesting a sort-of trial period, give new purchasers of the base game access to TBP for a time, so they can use these new features during their first games.
