Other games have it, why doesn’t age of empires 2, the most popular in the franchise ? The control scheme already exists for consoles, how hard is it for them to copy paste it over to the PC version ?

With 19 vills + loom FF, it's not necessary to send villagers to wood at vill 7/8/9 as per conventional wisdom of the last 2 decades. From an economic perspective it's worse than nonsense, it's actually inefficient. More can be sent later after more animals have been eaten, which results in less rot and therefore more resources collected. This also reduces the opportunity for the enemy to lame as the boars are collected faster. What am i missing ?

I'm refining a strategy with the Kitan and other civilizations. I already know the website to find out how many villagers I need for each resource to maintain consistent villager and soldier production. My question is, how many do I need to maintain farms and pastures? I want to optimize this strategy

I've played a lot of single player back in the early 2000s and came back now wanting to play pvp. Do you have any advice on how to start in terms of civs? Should I main a civ and be a one trick poney for a while to understand the game and then start to try other civs? Any guides or youtube channels you'd recommend? Thanks!

Would be cool to see the game progress with new mechanics (oysters and foxes and garrisoned fishboats in docks are perfect examples). Some ideas for the future: -buildable roads. Maybe they confir an efficiency benefit to buildings connected to a TC by road (they build faster, or work better, like +1 pop per house or 5% more resources dropped off or 5% faster unit production - that kind of thing. Like farms, a tile that can be walked over and destroyed. -moats/ditches. A unit like a single tile farm, but representing a defensive ditch. It would reduce effectiveness of wheeled or mounted units in some way, slow them or block them or make them more vulnerable. The idea is to add macro/micro opportunity while making towns look cool. I think the way to introduce new mechanics is to underpower them initially and make them more relevent to campaigns. Then slowerly tune them up to have a little multi-player relevance, but nothing that changes the feel of the game. What other ideas do people have?

With the announcement of another DLC for Age of Empires, it seems the next step to increase the Age of Empires player base is to offer the base game for free. Obviously, I don't know the game's finances. But it seems like an excellent business idea to give away the game without the DLCs. This would give new players access to classic campaigns, matches against AI, custom rooms, and quick play, while excluding the other civilizations, campaigns, and ranked matches. It feels like the DLCs are only sold to the hardcore Age of Empires players, the regular players. While they are a guaranteed business, it could be increased if we attract more players. What do you think? Would this cause any problems, or is this business strategy a bad idea?

I'm on windows 10, I've installed AoE2 via cd, I installed the update patch, then I installed conquerers, I took the user patch set up exe and put it in the Age of Empires II directory, same directory as empires2.exe but it tells me it can't find the necessary files, I can't launch aoe2 without installing it either it just gives me an error, can someone help?

Played 3 matches against an opponent who basically sends forward vills and militia/flemish/searjents and lames resources, builds towers, forward barracks etc. Never clicks up and eventually even after I get castle age I lose, because they have 40+ military pop. What should I be doing against this kind of early aggression? I tried walling,towers and maa but they just relentlessly add pressure without clicking up and eventually they have so much fuedal military that I cant do anything.

Typically aoe2 content on youtube is rather "sloppy". Uploading the best games of a player from his twitch stream or "opinion" video. There is nothing wrong with but it is rather low effort. Of course there are exceptions. Therefore, I want to appreciate the work that Tiramis is putting in his video about aoe2 history, fundamentals and more! Keep up the good work and I hope you dont run out of ideas! 11 hope you also get more views.

With The Viking Sagas adding the Danes, Saxons and Varangians, I was wondering how people here feel about the direction AoE2 is taking with new civilizations. I completely understand why part of the community is concerned about the sheer number of civilizations being added. It can become overwhelming not only for new players, but also for more casual players who have been around for years. I play multiplayer myself at a more than casual level, and even I sometimes struggle to keep up with learning all the new civilizations. From a gameplay perspective, I would actually prefer if civilizations remained a little more similar to each other, as they generally were in the past. I am not particularly fond of introducing more and more unique mechanics such as poison damage, bleeding effects, auras and similar systems just to make every new civilization feel completely different. At the same time, I have always looked at new civilizations from another perspective as well: every new addition gives the game an opportunity to explore the history of peoples and cultures that most players may otherwise know very little about. That is probably the main reason why I still enjoy seeing new civilizations added despite the increasing complexity of the game. Personally, I think there are still plenty of cultures and peoples that could be represented. I generally like the idea of expanding broad umbrella civilizations into more distinct cultures, as long as the game keeps representing actual peoples and cultures rather than individual kingdoms, states or dynasties (Yeah, I don't really like the 3K civs) The recent Last Chieftains DLC was a good example for me, since it brought several cultures from South America into the game, a region that had previously received relatively little attention. And now The Viking Sagas seems to be doing something similar with Northern Europe and the broader world usually covered simply by the Vikings. What do you think? Has the number of civilizations al
