I just tried this campaign on moderate. While it is true that you are given 4 trebuchets to smash the first wonder that the enemies start building, quickly the red and green enemies advance to imperial age and mass armies. Attacking red is a losing proposition, he will defend with massed infantry and scorpions and wipe out your starting army, trebuchets included. While this happens green will attack with heavy units like champions and paladins and siege onagers and trebuchets. I consider this game mechanic broken for normal players, maybe some ranked players or pros can defend from green and attack red at the same time, but not average campaign players. The Huns have a technology to increase the time it takes to win by a wonder, but with green smashing your doors the more time you spend on this scenario the more likely you are to be defeated. This mission seems to be heavily dependent on levels of micro similar to Heras so you can wipe out entire armies with 10 cav archers.

My brother and I are doing a fixed tournament. It's Regicide, 30min treaty, 500 pop, coastal map. I did well against him in the first round of the tournament, but he destroyed me with the Franks. He made a whole lot of axe throwers and Halberdiers, then some like 60 or so Paladins, along with a few Rams and Bombard Cannons. Im assuming he will come at it with a similar unit split. He would have like 60 axe throwers, and they would shred my units, and he would have them constantly run back, fire, and run back to his castles. I was the Byzantines, and I tried throwing walls of Halberdiers backed by champions or Cataphracts. But he would either do the run-back strat or put up a wall of his own Halberdiers, and my units would be shredded. So im wondering what to do. Any suggestions are appreciated. Also were not super advanced players, so please explain it like im a child lol.

Varangian Guards are essentially mercenaries, much like the Condottieri, they were most famously employed by the Byzantines ("Varangian" is the name given to them by the Greeks) but they also served other kingdoms. Therefore I think it'd be logical for them to be available for other civs as a mercenary like unit for Varangian allies the same way as the Condottiero, likewise it also doesn't make much sense for the other Scandinavian civs to just have Varangians as a base regional unit, because why would they use viking mercenaries when they're already viking themselves, unless of course they're already allied to the Varangians like the rest of the civs. The only issue I could potentially see would be something preventing both Varangian Guard and Condottiero to work properly if a team happens to have both Italians and Varangians, however considering how an Scandinavian player allied to an Italian should be able to use both units at the same time I don't think there'd be any issue. Only cases where I could see a potential UI problem would be Americans and Goths because they'd also have the Eagle/Champi and Huskarl at the barracks, which menas they'd end up with 5 different barracks units, but I think there's ways to fix that. What do you think?

so i believe the RTS community and aoe2 community especially missunderstands the idea and purpose of these 2 tools the way i view these is as follows: they’re essentialy equal to a car with automatic gear switching vs manual gear switching, some would argue there’s skill being lost but i disagree the core skill in RTS has always been multitasking and it has always been a genre based on real time decision making, neither auto queue or vill priority menu take any of this away, after all, the player still makes all the core decisions, the difference is simply the player choosing to sacrifice the max precision of fully manual approach for the sake of focusing on the big picture do these tools raise the skill floor? not really, core skill is making correct calls at correct time, neither of these raise the floor, they simply take care of areas less skilled players wouldn’t focus on as much either way because they lack the ability to read the game to that degree these systems also do not make you a better player, from experience with aom retold i can say the following, initially i played notably worse with these on, left only autoqueue but even then, i was still significantly better performing without either, so good old manual way, i say this to highlight that for a skilled player, these tools add nothing they wouldn’t already be doing better, for me the manual way allows level of awareness the use of above tools simply wouldn’t allow however, not everyone is as mechanically refined as a 20 year aoe veteran and for those people these 2 tools offer a way to strategize and decide in real time with less pressure, important to note, neither of these “play the game” on their own, player still steers the priority menu, still manually enables auto queues where they deem fit, decisions are still there, early eco still keeps majority of usual micro, like luring boars and even deer for super fast up times, the only micro you save is repeatedly clicking train villager button (no one

Hey Guys, I play a lot of Team Games (around 1300 to 1400 ELO). But I struggle on the Flank in Black Forest Games since its often hard to get to know what the oponent does behind his walls. Sometimes I try to push in Castle age. Sometimes I just try to play defensive and Boom and both has worked a number of times but then I get hardcore Ram pushed while Booming or my own push runs out of Steam because of a defensive Castle or other stuff. It kind of feels like I havent found the sweetspot strategy for myself by now. So I'm curious what you like to do in Team Games on the Flank in Black Forest. Thanks in advance!

I almost exclusively play with Saracens, which have a highly versatile, powerful tech tree. However, I find it difficult to play against civs that mix Cavalry with Cavalry Archers. Camels work in small numbers, but they are weak to archers and end up dying to them while fighting against the Cavalry meatshield. If I go Skirmisher, the opposite happens: I get killed by the Cavalry far more easily than I kill the Cav Archers. Trying to match feels like a losing excercise since Saracens have no economic bonuses besides the market and Hussar, Skirmisher and Archer lines are fully standard. Any tips?

Playing through the Campaigns recently, I was often left baffled by the ridiculous difficulty of some of them; usually to the detriment of my enjoyment. Most recent was Dos Pilas, where I'd get constantly assaulted by two different enemies while they were an age above me with more eco with no gold on the map. Others I remember are the achievements for Noryang Point and Quetzalcoatl being unbelievably difficult. A practically unacceptable amount of missions required some sort of cheese while still being ridiculously hard. I ended up watching some old playthroughs of the missions from 5-6 years ago, and saw the player struggling significantly less, casually steamrolling it blind while I couldn't beat it even with cheese strats. The same goes for the achievements, which seemed to be way easier in the videos. Looking at recent comments as well, it feels like over the years something broke and a lot of scenarios became unenjoyably difficult. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I only started playing recently so my evidence is anecdotal at best.

Ever wanted to host an AoE2 tournament, but didn't want the headache that comes with actually running one? Chasing signups Seeding brackets Scheduling matches Checking results Updating brackets Tracking who advanced Getting everyone into the right games Etc. Empire League now automates the entire thing end-to-end . Players that joined the tourney get auto-matched when their game begins (with a 5 minute window to ready up first). Even the in-game viewing experience is automated. In the tourney tab, you can click an active tourney, view the live brackets, and click a link to watch any live game via capture age or the in-game spectate mode. Results are detected automatically, winners advance automatically, and the bracket updates automatically. It's that easy! For now the possible tourney params are pretty basic: single elimination, set a min Elo, single map, 8,16,33 or 64 players, random civs or civ picks, an optional field for a password. But it's quite easy to extend this if people want more advanced tourney params. This is just a hint of what's possible with the fully virtualized lobby automation layer EL provides outside DE. PSA: I've not tested this outside my two local machine tests. That's part of the motivation for this post, I need some people to sign up for the test tourney I created inside Empire League (which is still in closed beta). Hi all, I wanted to get a quick view on the recent results and upcoming matches in email box in a concise and automated format. This is a newsletter that I am currently in process of automating to be sent daily. Thought of building it, as I checked and couldn't find anything of the like and thought it might also benefit the community (hence sharing here). Currently, I need to check the specific forums / discord / liquepedia for the same. Would love to get some inputs on how to make it better. I am looking to use this as a personal project to learn more about python, ai based automation and setting up a newsletter. I am using python to pull the data for liquepedia through standard apis available for wiki, leverage claude / gemini to format (i.e., publish into html, currently, did manually but plan is to do this via api call) and, api push to buttondown. From AOE2 details perspective I have tried to include - Active and Upcoming leagues (S-Tier), Detailed match results over the last 2 weeks (The league - Team Tourny results are there as you can see, includes: Players, Civs, Results), Upcoming matches (Timings and stream links). I have just reviewed some replays and I've noticed this happening a few times where steppe lancer can beat infantry at a crazy numbers disadvantage when they stack on one space. The infantry kind of bundle around when attack move and just get shredded... What are you supposed to do against them? The example that made me realise this was particularly shocking as I would sure it would be an easy cleanup... had 2:1 numbers of long swordsman and just got destroyed, I killed maybe 2 for my whole army... I am seeing it more and more frequently, honestly feels like another super easy and op unit in early castle age... Great at raiding, shreds walls, hard to micro against... idk, I really feel like all these additions are adding very little to the game apart from new ways to cheese.
