Isn’t it strange that the Saracens doesn’t have any thing or any bonus for their scout line that could represent their identity as a very famous swift and strong light cav in history? Early Saracens/Muslims expansion were really famous for their strong and swift light cavalry especially with the unique and special Arabian horse breed. It was one of the strongest (if not the strongest) and most important military advantages. Their light cavs played a major role in their conquests and was one of the main reasons to win many battles against both the Persians (Sasanian) and Romans (Byzantines) armies and other nations. In light of what has been mentioned, I think they should get bonus for their scout line that represent their unique and strong light cavs and even their infantry line also was so strong.

It has been 3 days since the announcement and we've already made a lot of progress, thanks to some brave souls in the discord that downloaded & ran the highly unstable, early beta version of Empire League. Suffice to say, we've squashed a huge number of bugs, and are approaching a stable version. We still have a long way to go before a full release but I think I can say with confidence there is only a 5% chance your machine will catch on fire running Empire League! We also just added a Classic Mode , which I think will be a staple feature. With classic mode enabled, you can only play with and match against civs up till the Mountain Royals DLC, excluding civs that were fundamentally changes: Chinese, Vietnamese, Koreans and Incas. I know what you're probably thinking ... won't this causing finding a match to take even longer? Classic Mode is designed to protect the classic civ pool without splitting the ranked into separate queues. Mirror for example will match a non classic queuer with a classic if the civ chosen was classic or not classic. Picking a civ will also allow non-classic queuers to match with classic if for example, a classic civ is chosen (which happens most of the time since most civs are classic). When someone selects unrestricted Random, Empire League quietly assigns their search to one of two pools: Classic Random: 41 civilizations Non-Classic Random: 12 civilizations There are 53 ranked civilizations in total, and 41 of them are eligible for Classic Mode. That means 41 ÷ 53 = 77.4% of unrestricted Random searches are naturally compatible with classic mode. The assignment is weighted by pool size, so every civilization retains approx the same chance of being rolled. Once a match is found, the server rolls the actual civ from the assigned pool while respecting both players’ civ bans. This gives classic mode a major advantage over a completely separate queue: nearly 77% of players choosing ordinary random can still match classic players, while norm

Hey everyone,I wanted to pitch a gameplay mechanic concept and see what you all think. Right now, civilization bonuses reflect who a faction was historically, but they completely ignore where they fought. A desert civilization performs identically in a snowy European forest as they do on a flat sand dune.What if AoE2 introduced a subtle Map Region Mechanic based on global map tags?Depending on the geographical archetype of the map script, civilizations would get a thematic passive trait or global modifier: Arid / Desert Maps (Arabia, Oasis, Valley)The Shift: Camel units and Cavalry Archers gain +1 pierce armor, or Farms yield +5% more food to represent historical desert irrigation networks. Who benefits: Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and African civilizations. Temperate / European Maps (Black Forest, Arena, Baltic)The Shift: Infantry units gain +2 line of sight through trees, or Siege Weapons cost 10% less wood due to the abundance of high-quality timber. Who benefits: European and East Asian civilizations. Tropical / Jungle Maps (Yucatan, Rainforest, Nomad)The Shift: Units heal 10% faster when standing idle inside shallows, or standard Outposts are completely free to build to combat low visibility. Who benefits: Mesoamerican and Southeast Asian civilizations. Two ways this could be handled: Home Field Advantage: The bonus applies only to factions native to that specific climate zone. Global Map Modifier: The bonus applies to every civilization universally, fundamentally shifting the map’s strategy for everyone. Obviously, this would probably be disabled in standard Ranked Matchmaking to protect the 1v1 competitive meta, but it could be a massive addition to custom lobbies, show-matches, and custom campaigns. Would this make map drafting and casual play way more interesting, or would it be a balancing nightmare? Let me know your thoughts!

I’ve been enjoying age of empires 4 on steam deck, along with age of mythology. I recently purchased age of empires 2, which is the most popular game in the franchise by far, and I was shocked to discover there’s zero controller support while the console versions have it. What’s the rationale for not having controller support on Age of Empires 2 ? Which is easily the most popular game in the franchise with the most single player content ? I’d love to kick back and play on my steam deck while enjoying this timeless classic. Has the developer given any information on if it’s in the roadmap and if it’s not, why not ?

Hello, hope everyone's having a good day. I've been playing the campaigns on DE for the first time, and I was just in the Siege of Paris mission from the Joan of Arc campaign. At the end, when you need to yolo Joan and the villagers to the castle, I got everyone directly under the castle BUT my incompetent allies decided to hold the gate open for the Burgundy army of cavaliers and siege rams to come in and fuck up their base. It's their own fault, they should have sticked to the plan. Not to mention none of this would have happened if we'd gotten the proper reinforcements... They easily killed Joan and I lost, but I'd had her and the six villagers under the castle for a easily a few seconds and still didn't get the victory cue. Is this intentional, like are you supposed to lose if the army gets in? Or is there an amount of time that's supposed to elapse before you get the victory? I don't really mind playing again, but still would like to know.

Maximum infuriation. Maximum restarts. Closed the game. Opened the game. Walked away from keyboard multiple times. In the end I finally beat it. Feels good.

EDIT: Title -- Need a quick look at opponent civ and bonuses in game -- ASAP With more and more new civs being added with every new DLC, the number of specific combinations and strats someone might use is insane. At least in 1:1s, there needs to be a simple lookup, for what the opponent bonuses are. Right next to your own civ up top. Lately, I keep getting rickrolled by 1 specific bonus my opponent has and I had no clue that why my units die quicker than usual. Eg. Bolas riders -- I have no clue those had bonus against CA and I kept making hordes of them, only to just melt at sight. Now someone might say: just remember it for next time. Sure, but there are 50+ civs now; it was easy to do with ~20. It's next to impossible for a newb to know all 50.

Suddenly in Castle age it lists 35+ vills without telling you to actually make more in Feudal. It's maybe just assumed that of course you keep making vills always I guess..?

WHAT I created a datamod that excludes all civs released after Rise of the Rajas. WHY I did this because I don't want to play nor play AGAINST civs from more recents DLCs. There are now too many civs and it ruins the game for me, at least at my elo (+- 900). Too much to learn, and you lose because you are not familiar with a civ, not because your opponent is better at the general game mechanics and tactics and army control and what not. The enemy just suprises you with another weird civ/strat with that unknown civ. That can feel like you're losing a trivia contest rather than an RTS match. The mod gets automatically downloaded when selected in your multiplayer lobby by the other players that join. Feel free to test and let me know what you think. Every time the base game changes the classic 31 civs, I will have to remake my mod I guess. It's like 5 minutes work, so I will try to keep up. I get an error that achievements did not process this game because cheat codes where used. Not sure how to fix that, if at all possible. Hopefully Capture age still works, will check soon. I am pretty sure Varangians get added in Bari #3 Danes are almost certain to make an appearance in Finehair abd likely in Otto. Vindlandsaga and Hastings may get changes to Greenland and Harald Hadraada. Posibly in Robert. Might get added to Ragnar… but Ragnar isn’t really a mission with AoE 2 setup. Saxons should be added for York, Hastings, Vortigern. (Still salty you play as Britons, not Romans)

Don't get me wrong I love that we are getting a Vikings DLC, but this just isn't sustainable. I spend countless hours studying the different civs, studying the different bonuses, unique units, unique techs, and tech trees. I actually find it fairly enjoyable to do this, but even I am getting overwhelmed. I can't imagine what it must be like for casual players and especially new players! I know many people have talked about how this isn't sustainable, but I would like to brainstorm a system that is. I love the Chronicles DLCs and I thought the Campaign-Only DLC was a good idea too, though it might be better received if the content was original, but I realize that this might not sell enough to justify the effort. The best idea I have so far is microtransactions. Traditionalists may not like this, but I am NOT thinking anything pay to win. I am thinking AoE 2 needs paid icons, unit skins, sound effects, maybe taunts? I have already bought all the paid moving icons and would personally pay for many of these things. I love that the devs gave us free new skins for monks and Castles, but if it helps the game keep paying for itself and not get too bloated by new civs, regional units, and unique units I would be fine with anything else in this category being behind a paywall. Anyone agree? Disagree? Why or why not? What are some other ideas?

1500 elo Just played against Mapuche as Malians. I chose the wrong strat, because apparently Mapuche can just sit back and win. I'm watching it back, I kill 4 vils from him (I've idled for 3 vills). We have similar eco upgrades and efficiency. I have 20 more vills at 26:55 game time, they haven't even entered my base, we're at even res collected. How? How is that economy so broken? Like yes he has handcart and I forgot to get wheelbarrow. But we have similar idle eco time too. Anyways he goes to Imp, gets it at 33:00, only 1k Res behind me but has 17 fewer vils. Long story short I lose because he goes elite bolas riders and nothing I make can fight them. I was on crossbows and skirms and I lack bracer. sends like 4 konas to kill everything. I had light cav, but couldn't keep my gold to go camels. Why do they make these garbage new civs? Like this is why I stopped playing, probably go back to Civilization and Total war now.

Going from no new sets since release to two of the most requested sets in one year, it seems like a bunch of big fan requests are being fulfilled. So with that thought, will we be seeing a steppe nomadic set coming for the nomadic civs (Huns, Mongols, Cumans, Khitans)? The concept of the nomadic civs using other sets from nearby civs had some weight originally, but with the Tengrist monastery and unique castles, that visual is becoming very muddy and looking rather silly. With Tengrist shrines situated next to high Middle Ages German buildings. There are plenty of Nomadic civs to potentially add in for a hypothetically DLC to go along with it; Hephthalites, Uzbeks, Kushans, Khazars, Gokturks. Plenty to pick from. Anyone think we will see more sets in the future?

Kinda missing the old matchup discussions. Played Poles vs. Persians yesterday and have been thinking a lot about the matchup. It felt pretty bad, but I’m not very comfortable with Poles, so maybe I’m missing something. My game plan was defensive Feudal into 1 TC Knight spam, hoping to win the game in late Castle Age. But I couldn’t kill the Persian TCs, and the eco was already too strong. What could I have done differently? Open archers? Or try something like Obuch + Rams?
