I was playing the jadwiga campaing and managed to get to scenario 5. I find it interesting how the designers tried to introduce different mechanics. I had to google to beat scenario 4 but it was doable, I got used to defend against the teutonic order waves. Then I proceeded to scenario 5, and everything was going well until I started attacking the karzikermen. Let's follow where we left - https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/1vvz4bv/comment/p5f75vy/?context=1&screen_view_count=1 TL/DR - it's funny how Bracer was sort of premium in the base game (together with Plate Barding), but as the game progressed, very few civs were added that lack this upgrade compared to the rest of the Imperial Blacksmith upgrade... so how do the few that lack it get by? Conquerors - number of civs without Bracer: 4 out of 18 Forgotten - number of civs without Bracer: 5 out of 23 #5 Slavs Another addition. And while Slavs used to have UT Orthodoxy that gave Monks armor... now they have Detinets (Castles cost some wood instead of being all Stone.) So once again - strong eco, fortification improvement, and strong melee units. Initially it may seem Slavs are imitating Celts, but they are also a lot like Teutons. Boyars are super tanky, much like Teuton melee units, and there is a farming upgrade. They are apparently a Siege Civ, but... they were arguably more of a Monk civ in the past when they had Orthodoxy. Siege is ... just cheaper, and you have everything except BBCs. Military buildings also allow you to save some wood on houses, so that's another bonus to eco. Either way, Siege is a good way to deal with enemy Archers since your Skirms aren't exactly good. Your Infantry scales really well - getting all upgrades and access to AoE damage while Gambesons and Arson are coming in free. Instead of Archers, you go tanky or you go splash damage. And your Monks are pretty good even without Orthodoxy (fully upgradeable except Heresy; Fervor is a " built-in civ bonus). Also, your eco is so good that Cavalry is indeed an option. Age of Empires 2 does a fantastic job of evoking a medieval English aesthetic: Yeomen, Norman-style architecture (notably the Chichester Cathedral), recognizable English monarchs and the audio voices in Middle English. Because of this design, the in-game “Britons” civilization feels intuitively English to most players. However, looking at how the terms Briton, Brittones, and Brythoniaid were actually used in medieval sources shows that the label belongs to a completely different group of people.

My UI mod has used a custom tech icon called TechIconsT141Durazzo for years. It was defined through icons.json, materials.json, and a custom DDS file, and worked correctly in older versions. After the recent update, the custom Durazzo icon no longer appears. Has the loading or override behavior of icons.json changed recently? It could be cool to have a roguelike game mode like how AoMR has AotG/gauntlet, but instead of getting blessings that you’ll probably not use after every fight you instead gradually build a civ over let’s say 40 fights, with every fight offering either a unit or unit upgrade reward, a generic upgrade reward, a civ or team bonus reward with offerings of Castle unique units or upgrades taking place at fixed points. What’s going on with the Metropolis map in multiplayer? There’s barely any wood, tons of scouts, and the map just feels really weird. Did I mess something up when setting it up? In single player, the map is normal and actually interesting, with everything spawning as it should.

It has become very common on mid elos that people cheesing, acting aggresive, not even allowing pausing. For example, I was playing a guy yesterday, it was lagging so bad and I literally begged to the guy saying please allow me pause for a sec I can't play and he unpaused. Of course he won and started laughing and shit talking. Same day, I remembered a guy we played many games, he told me to f*ck off for no reason. You can feel the same thing with early cheesing, stealing boar. I understand these can be valid tactics but this aggressiveness and low sportsmanship is crazy.

Hi everyone, I used to play AOE2 as a child, and about a year ago I got back into the game and have been playing in multiplayer mode at beginner level. My Elo rating is around 750–850. I usually play with a mate. I generally play 4v4 on all the available maps, but recently it’s been really frustrating. In many matches, players give up after a few or a dozen or so minutes. What I mean is, there hasn’t even been any aggression yet, and people just give up like that. What’s the point of ruining the game for everyone else? At first I tried playing 3v4, but it can be really annoying when you lose anyway because of an unbalanced team composition. That’s why I now give up too if there’s someone like that on my team. Reporting such cases doesn’t work as I can see – I’ve no idea if there’s a solution to this problem? Perhaps a trust rating system, similar to the one introduced a few years ago in CS, might help. If you quit before the 30-minute mark, your trust rating goes down and you’re only matched with players of a similar level, which I think could help. I’m just really fed up with this situation now – for example, I’ve played yesterday 8 matches and people have dropped out 5 times. If they don’t want to progress, what’s the point of playing ranked matches?

I cant decide what i like better, i love the faster attack for infantry for japanese, but then again i love the rams as celts, which is your favorite? also love the goths cheap infantry... then theres the vikings eco bonus that is unreal... thoughts?

Even amongst units as the stat-beast Tiger Cavalry, the ever-buffing Magyar Huszar and the powercreep-immune Mangudai, I think one unit stands alone above them all. The Conquistador This unit has insane stats, works well both in low and high numbers, barely needs any upgrades and has too many favorable matchups. Even the Elite Skirmisher, it's quintessential counter, struggles against it due to its massive attack. One could argue that the Conq is balanced around the difficulty of getting to it, but the resurgence of FC strats show this isn't the case anymore, even in open maps like Arabia, and I'd argue those strats have only helped shed light on its brokenness, as the unit would still be problematic without them. "The Conquistador is an entirely overpowered unit" , RedPhosphorus, the eponym for these type of strats puts the Conquistador on a tier of its own, and pro players themselves have shown it works at all levels. You can see this in the KotD6 finals . For those who haven't seen it, it's an insane set at I'm about to partially spoil. In Game 2, Viper gets Spanish against Hera's Ethiopians and goes 23 pop FC. Hera reads this and goes FC himself, beating Viper to Castle Age with arguably one of best Civs for the matchup. Hera, the number one player in the world, reads the strat correctly, executes the counter to the highest level and is still defeated. But Hera doesn't lose when the Conqs come out, he loses when Viper starts mixing Mangonels with his Conqs, and here I think lies the biggest part of the problem. Dual Compositions are a core aspect of Aoe2 (DC meaning an army composed of two types of units). It is incredibly rare to see a pro game in which either of the players don't have an army composed of at least two unit types. Knight + Skirm, Halb + Arb, Monk + Siege. Is anyone able to get this mod working anymore? When I start it and put my workers for forage the bushes or boat or resources they work for about 15 seconds and then go idle. Then they won't restart foraging those bushes no matter what. They will build buldings though.

I was going through tech trees and noticed one thing. Devs have, in general, tried to stay away from not giving civs Bracer, which is kinda funny, because on release 4/13 civs lacked Bracer. Currently, we have only 9/54 that lack it. So since release, only 5 more civs without Bracer have been added. ' Compared to this, Plate Barding was also not that common on release (not available to 5/13), but as more civs were added, there are now 19/54 without it. It can be argued that it is inflated by the 6 American civs (including Mapuche) because these actually lack Cavalry upgrades together. Even without these they still added 8 more civs without this upgrade. It is even more prominent with Plate Mail or Blast Furnace. These two upgrades were almost universal in the base game. Only the Goths didn't have Plate Mail, and the Byzantines lacked Blast Furnace. Since release, 10 more civs without Plate Mail and 9 without Blast Furnace have been added. To finalise this with Ring Archer Armor - on release it was not given to Franks and Mongols (2/13). Since then, a whopping number of 11 more has been added. It also deserves to mention there are civs which lack the second upgrade in each Blacksmith line with the sole exception of Bodkin Arrow. ... This made me think. How do civs "get away" with this missing stuff and how these "anomalies" were added to the game across the game's. lifespan Without further ado... how do they compensate? After watching Lierrey's recent tier list and start to use Burgundians, I reached my personal record 1230! I did reach up to 1200 two or three times but I was crushed down very soon.
