In Definitive Edition, is it a prerequisite that I can't build a castle or advance to Imperial age? All walkthroughs say build castles and spam trebuchets, I can't do either. Also, for some reason palisade walls are also disabled.

I've queued up to fight AIs of any map type any number of players vs AI of different difficulties but haven't ever seen another player. Is this working or are people not using it? It there a right way to use it?

This is a random map of forest nothing but with baobab trees instead. Units can walk between the tree gaps. Comes with a goodies version with food, gold, stone, and relics on the map. Here’s my ideas for new Civilizations, units and technologies. New Civilizations: Europe/Old World: Scandinavians (the successor to Vikings) Swiss Africa (new Southern African architecture set): Benin Kongolese Shana Swahili Asia (new secondary South East Asian architecture set): Tagalogs Visayans Javanese Mesoamerica: Zapotecs Tlaxcaltecs New Common/Regional Units: Blow Dart Infantry (requires Alchemy, see below) → Elite Blow Dart Infantry (Imperial Age/Regional Unit) Blow Dart Infantry and their Elite counterpart fire short range darts that have poison damage, requires Alchemy in Imperial Age to unlock access to, available to some Civilizations which lack any access to gunpowder units or Bombard Towers). Hunter Scout → Hunter Warrior (Feudal Age/Regional Unit) Available for the Benin, Kongolese, Shana, Swahili, Visayans and Zapotecs who traditionally lacked access to horses. They replace Scout Cavalry and have similar stats to Eagle Scouts. They have the ability to hunt animals for food. The inability to gain access to them in Dark Age, but still be available on skirmish games makes them decent, but not powerful. Bowman line - Bowman → Reflex Bowman → Reflex Archer → Elite Reflex Archer (Feudal Age/Regional Unit/Replaces Archer Line) Available for Swahili, Visayans, Zapotecs, in addition to the existing Civilizations of the Aztecs, Maya, Inca, Mapuche, Muisca, and Tupi. A cheaper version of the Archer line for Civilizations who did not have Crossbow (and therefore Arbalest). Less HP, slightly better rate of fire. For Mesoamericans, the Militia line should remain as is, but the unit sprites/look should reflect more on those warriors who wielded obsidian swords and wooden shields. New Technologies: Irrigation → Terrace Farming → Crop Rotation (Mill/Settlement) Replaces the Horse Collar and Heavy Plow, same effect, just different name. Available for Shona, Swahili, Visayans, Zapotec, Aztec, Tlaxcaltecs, Maya, Inca, Mapuche, Musica and Tupi. Essentially the Civilizati

So, I started playing aoe2 once again after it’s release on macOS. I used to play A LOT since I was a kid in 2007ish till 2014ish, then played on Voobly a bit, and then pretty much quit till now. I had a few games couple times per year but nothing serious. Since the macOS release in June I’m really into it, watching YouTube and streamers, learning BOs cuz they are completely different compared to what I remember, also there’s 53 civs now, compared to 18(/23 w Forgotten Empires) when I played back then. I’m really on my grind to be somewhat good. Now, I just hit 1200 on macOS ladder. Considering the macLadder #1 is currently 1897, I assume mine 1200 would have been much lower if I played on normal ladder. Do you guys know how are the two ladder comparable in terms of elo? I'm sure they were mildly memeing, and they weren't on my side of the map, but I'm only a 1400. Thankfully we steamrolled our side early and then ground out the win. Didn't even clock the names, I did wonder why it was so hard after trouncing our side haha

I’m new coming over from Xbox. Finding it much harder to keep tabs on vils as I get into higher pop. Especially the farms.

I used to play this back in 2000s - back when 500MB ram was "the thing". Pleasnalty surprised that this still exists! And the 3.4K Idle villager thing is awesome. 11! Wololooooooo

TLDR : This is a proposal of ideas for a Swiss civilization, with a minimalistic set of mostly simple bonuses on a very vanilla European tech tree, that I think would still add a quite flavorful & unique civilization to the game. If you don't like civ crafting posts, then skip this one! For each bonus I also have a secondary TLDR for a quick summary of what the bonus ought to do, then Stats for Nerds section underneath it for the gritty details of exactly what I'm proposing, if you like that kind of thing. Key historical references: - Zweihänder . These powerful two-handed swords inspire the champ-line blast damage bonus - Story of William Tell . You know - apples, crossbows, questionable parenting & reckless endangerment, angry villagers revolting.... As one might guess, this inspires the castle UT, as well as the team bonus. - The Swiss Guard (still going strong today!) and the history of Swiss mercenaries in general inspires the UU and imperial UT. - The monastery bonus & housing >> food bonus are **very** loosely inspired by the many alpine villages and strong religious history, including the reformation-era. Civ Bonuses: 1). Receive a trickle of food based on population cap TLDR: housing market go up! This is like the typical eco bonus that most civs get, if on the strong side perhaps, and it does encourage building houses early and often. Stats for Nerds: 0.8 food per pop-space per minute. This means each additional house (+5 pop space) will provide you with 40 food over 10 minutes of gameplay (5 pop-cap \ 0.8f / min. * 10 minutes). Once you reach pop cap, you can't increase the trickle with more houses. For 200 pop, this is 160 f / minute, something like 6-8 extra farmers, I think.* EDIT: I ran the number in my head again and 0.8f / min. per pop might be too high -- but thankfully this is an easily adjustable bonus - it could be lowered to 0.5 or 0.6f / minute, or have a staggered increase over the ages, for example. 2).
