I thought I would try to mix it up by going for like a sneak behind / forward base and then shock attack on Arena and fortified clearing. I have been trying it with Japanese for the faster attack infantry. I practiced it in skirmish quite a bit to work out the timings / vill numbers and I can get a really good number (around 20) quite quickly without much wasted time/resource. Even with a few games with good execution and opponent being greedy with only palisade walls it just doesn't really work. The feudal units just feel way too weak even in mass. They can obviously get to castle and either place defensive castle or even just go for whatever UU they were planning to make. Can anything like this work? Or do you just have to go fast castle on these closed maps? I'm not saying it should be the best strat ever, but it feels like if opponent goes full greed, no army and poor scouting, it should be possible to punish somehow.

Hello, I’m currently working on enabling heroes for each civilization using the Advanced Genie Editor, starting with Artaphernes for the Achaemenids. When I type a description in the box (ability, cost, upgrades, etc), it disappears after saving and does not appear in-game. Do I need to select inputs for “Language File Creation”, “Help Converter”, and/or “Hotkey Text Converter” to make it functional? If not, what is the solution? I still remember when one of the Mayan UTs was named El Dorado. As for one right now, one of the Byzantine UTs is named Logistica, which means logistics, and it allows Cataphracts to inflict area damage. My take is that Varangian Guard would make more sense for that as a UT name.

I enjoy 1v1 fine, but I prefer playing 4v4 allied with my teenage son. He plays on his laptop next to my desktop and we talk strategy in realtime. We are both ~850 (team game) elo after bottoming in the 600s, and now slowly grinding our ranking up as we improve. I play as flank and he plays the pocket on the same side. Mostly on Arena and Black Forest. We've used a few civ combinations but lately we've been going me Goths and him Bohemians. I go FC, 1 TC and spam infantry for early Castle Age attack and he goes 2 TC with hand cannons and their special bombard cannons. I've also done Celts and Persians as flank and he's also done Berbers. I just find the 4v4 social aspect, coming through for your teammates, and winning a close hour-long hard fought battle is as good as it gets in online gaming.

You use the bonus linesight of the transport ship + the scout to scout all the gold of the enemy island then drop villagers to put 2 donjons then relentlessly bully and follow the enemy relocating on the main island by constantly landing your serjeants Pirate roleplay, it's very fun

I was watching a video recently (can't remember who by) and they mentioned that one of the best things about this game is that basically, whatever civ you get, you have a viable game and there's very few objectively awful match-ups. That got me thinking - what are the most one-sided match-ups? Not necessarily "best civ in the game" vs "worst civ in the game" but from a tech tree/strategies perspective. Alternatively, what opponents do you dread coming up against?

So, with all the talk about early attacking, what if i build a wall near opponents town centre once I've got to feudal then build towers behind it and garrison units in there. All the while picking off their villagers. Could this work?

I started playing again after 20(?) years break around when Hera's turnamemt was ongoing. I was winning comfortable like a week/2 weeks ago and then switch to immortal AI but now when playing agains regular DE extreme it is always faster then me with early preasure and I cannot keep up with resources and production. There was some a minor patch like a day or two ago, is this related or do I just play bad?

Since the latest update / patch, the "Browse Mods" page is completely empty and just has a spinning loading wheel displaying "Loading Mods..." I've tried restarting the game and also verified my game files on Steam. Has this happened to anyone else? For clarity I can see the Installed Mods page, and they all still work in-game. It just means that for the moment, I can't browse or install new mods.

Alternative title, whats the best way to shut them down. Deny gold for cav archers? I find them an incredibly hard civ to push due to keeping siege alive between the huszar siege bonus suicide and cav archer snipes. If they get to their ideal comp it seems one of the best in the game since most other deathball comps are immobile/slow and either susceptible to raiding or bad at raiding themselves, as well as their gold unit being easy to keep alive and their trash unit beating all other trash nearly 2-1. I'll take mongols over it any day of the week

Hi guys I'm new to AoE2 universe. I did play Age of Mythology back in college. I mainly play Dota 2 but recently I'm seeing lot of resurgence in AoE2 and so wanted to try. My intention is to get into ranked games eventually but I notice so many DLCs I am utterly confused, which ones to buy. The intention to buy is so that I cover all civs required for ranked games before the steam summer sale ends. I also got to know even when you buy some DLCs those civs are not available on ranked now I'm even more confused! Please help me buy all DLCs that are eligible for ranked. I got about 8 hours before the sale ends.

Im relatively new to Aoe2 and have never installed a single mod. Probably because I have never been able to. Everytime I go to mods it just loads forever. I verified the integrity of my game files on steam. I checked my connection to my xbox account. I checked that my antivirus isn't intercepting the connection. I reinstalled the game twice. Tried deleting corruptable metadata. There were some other things I tried too but Im forgetting them now. It feels like I've tried everything under the sun. Does anyone know how to fix this?

I am around 1100 Elo and recently every game I go to, I make a few scouts and try to go in but the enemies are almost always fully walked in somehow and if they have a small gap or a weakness, they got a few spears guarding it it just feels like going for any sort of feudal aggression just doesn’t seem worth it especially with scouts since if I try to break a wall, they just get a vil to house the behind Should I switch my strategh to archers? I debate this but since I play Lithuanians I always go for Knights + monks in castle age and archers early on makes going for knights much longer and harder Is FC a better strategy nowadays or am I just doing smtg wrong. for the record I got with a 19-20 pop no loom to get the scouts early but still find minimal success

My queue is broken so I have been watching these guys instead, they are playing an incredible 1v1 Arena game right now. They are almost 2 hours in, ~500 ELO, Goths vs Poles and it has been a skirm war for large portions of the game. wang3533 currently has about 100 units in queue while being housed at 165 pop, still hasn't researched an Imperial Age blacksmith tech, but he has Fast Eddie on the ropes at 50 pop.
