I set one goal with the Khitans: mass Fire Lancers in Castle Age with +4 attack. The opening was awkward, the food was weak and my opponent added a second range - but once Rams and 13-attack Fire Lancers appeared, the plan became much harder to stop than it had any right to be.

I think The Forgotten had one of the best DLC models in AoE2. Instead of focusing on one region, it brought together civilizations from different parts of the world that were genuinely missing from the game. Later DLCs increasingly focused on a single region. It would be really cool if AoE2 eventually allowed each player to create and save up to 3 completely custom civilizations , usable in Unranked, Custom and Single-Player games , but never in Ranked. You could create a civ called something like The Empirites , Kingdom of the Sun , or whatever you want, then build its identity using a controlled point system. For example: Choose your civilization name, emblem and description . Select up to 5 civilization bonuses , with each bonus costing a certain number of points. Choose up to 2 Unique Units . Choose up to 2 Unique Technologies . Choose a Team Bonus . Existing AoE2 units would provide the foundation for your Unique Units, but you could make limited stat/ability modifications. Rename the unique units however you want. So you could take the Longbowman , modify its stats within an allowed range, and rename it Superior Archer . Or take the Cavalier and turn it into your own custom Imperial Knight . The underlying unit would still be based on an existing AoE2 unit, keeping the system manageable and balanced. The point-budget system would be essential: powerful bonuses, technologies and unit modifications would cost more points, preventing players from simply stacking every strongest ability in the game. And again, completely separate from Ranked . Ranked remains the carefully balanced official civilization roster, while Unranked becomes the sandbox where players can actually design and experiment with their own civilizations . I think that would be an incredibly fun long-term feature for AoE2.

Like the title states, I can drag towers and what not, but my initial towers output can't keep up like other players. Any tips? Also CBA lobbies are the worst. They expect you to already know how to play when you've never played before. 11

Pretty much what the title says. I last played AOE 2: DE around 2021, and in the meanwhile the game was patched several times, and i also did a Windows reinstall. Before reinstall i did back up my whole Users folder just in case. Wanted to play some more lately, so i patched the game to the latest version, looked for the AOE 2 folder in my backed up \Games, and just copied all of it to my new installation. Well, i do have the manual saves and autosaves i did in my last session, but all campaign progress seems to be reset. And i had about half the campaigns completed on Hard, about 130 hours worth of gameplay. Am i doing something wrong, or is just everything gone? Is there some other location i have to look in? And yeah, i copied ALL the AOE 2 folder from \Games, so i have the same folder structure, with all the folders. Not just the savegame folder

AoE2.ai is tracking 45,761 RM 1v1 players. Top five: #1 Oni.Vinchester 2,965, #2 VIT | Hera 2,961, #3 TAG_Sitaux 2,907, #4 wR.Sebastian 2,903, #5 TAG_MbL_ 2,843. Longest hot streak in the sampled top ladder: Oni.TaToH (30 wins). Best sampled win rate with 300+ games: VIT | Hera 75.1%. 76 of the sampled top players have played in the last 24h.

The current Tupi bonus (The Watch Tower line, Bombard Towers, Kreposts, Donjons, and Castles provide +10 population space) doesn’t really fit them – they aren’t people renowned for building towers, yet alone living in them. I’d like to see it replaced with something else, and give the bonus to a new Vainakh civ instead (Vainakh = Chechen and Ingush people of the Caucasus). Internet connection was stable. FREQUENCY OF ISSUE 50% of the time / matches I play (FREQUENTLY) REPRODUCTION STEPS See above. So before posting here I did a quick search and found out that this issue is happening for at least 1 year: https://www.reddit.com/r/aoe2/comments/1d475dy/comment/mww1zl3/ Looks like a weird bug, I have 70~ paladins, destroy cyan's army, they surrender, new units spawn near TC and they rebel again. Somehow it only stops when I kill their TC, but once they rebuild it, the cycle continues lmao

I'm working on a rules-enforced web client for playing AOE2 ECG. I know that TTS exists, but it doesn't do rules enforcement and requires owning TTS and knowing someone who wants to play. Currently I'm just running local host for debugging and development with port forwarding for playing/testing with my buddy. All that being said, does anyone have any interest in this becoming a public website that you can just log into and play with whoever else may be online? Drop your comments and suggestions! A month ago I made a post about a suspected cheater, turns out they were. Made a support ticket, received reply that moderation action was taken. It seemed like they were banned for a time. Now his back doing the same thing on the same account, just a different name, Aoe2 insights take you to the same page . Opened up a replay, and once again, he's playing as the map is explored, villager rallies onto unexplored boar, straight line to enemy sheep. If the punishment for cheating is a 2-3 week ban without even losing any elo, or refunding to those who lose to it, then I gotta say this moderation system has some real problems.

Vietnamese player here, yesterday i jumped in thinking it would be a great briton game (on Arena) and i found mid-match that THUMB RING one of the 2 most important upgrade for archers to fire accurately was NOT THERE... why? not like britons have a buff on accuracy like Celts with squires or bow saw. HOW can an empire learn how to use advanced engineering and mathematics to build the biggest trebuchet known to mankind but still lack the skill to forge iron into a donut shape and put it into your thumb? If they think it would be too OP with the range of longbowman they could make so that longbowmen dont get effected by it... But why just ban it completely?

I think future DLCs should focus on what the game needs most , rather than completing one particular region. For example, I would much rather see a DLC with: Danes + Serbians + Tanguts + one African civilization. They don't need to come from the same region. What matters is that each civilization fills a genuine historical gap and brings something new to the game. The Forgotten's approach was simple: don't ask which region needs more civilizations — ask which civilizations AoE2 needs most.

First of all, thanks to all modcreators out there! I’m a huge singleplayerguy and started going thru all the awesome campaign mods. But now when I’ve completed some I struggle to keep track on which I’m currently playing if it’s been a few days. As for now, i need to go to the list of mods and see which one I last downloaded. Any tips for solving my problem?

I have a serious tilt peoblem with this game and I would like to know if any of you guys have the same problem. Just like chess, when you lose a 1v1 game of AOE2 it's always because the opponent outplayed you. The game is extremely skill intensive so when you lose, it is always a punch to your ego. The opponent outsmarted you, or he was faster, more efficient, or made better decisions... There is simply no excuses, no luck involved. Doesn't help that most times when you lose, it appears that the opponent is always doing something "obvious" like spamming military units non-stop or being sneaky and picking a lot of vils on raids, or he just finds a hole on your wall and wins on the spot, which makes you look stupid to lose like that. Like you're losing to a brainless robot that does the same thing every game but you still manage to lose because you can't stop it. (I know it's just an illusion since your opponent had to set up their eco to do that and also correctly micro the units, but that's just how it looks like when playing). I tend to be a little sweaty try hard on competitive games I really enjoy, and AOE2 is certainly one of them. But as such an old game it's really common to find opponents who have played 5k+ games in 1400 elo for example, which creates a highly competitive enviroment even for low/intermediate elo. I have no idea how most of you guys manage to keep the good spirits saying "gg" or "gl hf" in almost all games, and I commend you for that, but for me it's impossible to do that. It is always really annoying to lose and the best I can do it's just to say nothing and quit. Unfortunately a lot of times I end up griefing my opponent somehow, as a desperate way to protect my ego or just to annoy him trying to convince him he shouldn't have won, when in hindsight it is obviously untrue. I know it's wrong but I'm so tilted in the moment I frequently end up doing that. I would like to know how you guys avoid doing that and what kind of mindset do you have

Prior to the 3K rework, the Chinese civ had access to Camel Riders instead of Fire Lancers. This was because of China's proximity to both Mongolia to the north, and Central Asia to its west Now if the 3K civs were designed with Camel Riders in mind, which ones could've gotten them, to be (atleast semi-) historically accurate? The Wu are to the east, so they're the first to be ruled out. The Wu had contact with Vietnam, so they could've actually gotten non-Elite Battle Elephants, if I understand correctly The Shu are in the middle of China (Sichuan), but still quite far away from China's border with Central Asia. If we stretch the definition of Shu to include all Chinese entities named Shu, they could've gotten non-Elite Fire Lancers The Wei are to the north, bordering Mongolia. They get access to Xianbei Raiders as auxiliary troops from the region. So would they be the most likely to get Camel Riders (even if only non-Elite)? They could've also gotten non-Elite Steppe Lancers as more Xianbei representation This isn't a balance discussion or me saying any of these civs should get any of these units. They were designed with their own unique and regional units in mind. This is just me asking which civs could've gotten which regional units w.r.t. historical accuracy
