So I have thought about this for a while now and it makes increasing sense to me: The champion should be a more powerful but more exclusive upgrade. Higher stats than it has now, but, only available to civs that actually specialize in infantry. It should essentially be the “paladin of the barracks”, powerful and costly but not everyone gets access to it. In its current state it just feels like an unnecessary extra step to gain access to a common unit. It is just bloat. No other unit in the game has FIVE stages. Why is this necessary? Make the champion upgrade actually meaningful by making it a part of certain faction’s identity and strengths. This way we would also see the two-handed swordsman for more than 40 seconds at a time, instead of it just being a stepping-stone. One way it could really stand out is by having trample damage. Age of Empires games generally like to give this to units with greatswords or similar weapons, so it would make sense and be consistent. But just a good set of stats that actually make it viable as your main go-to unit would also be fine.

Here's some ways to select and deselect quicker. This video is kind of old so it might be Wrong. Selecting 1. Double left click one unit: Selects all units of that type on the screen. Individually select each unit: Hold shift or Ctrl left clicking the units. Square box select selecting all units inside: Hold down left click them release. Pressing alt with box dragging will select only villagers. Selecting lots of types of units: hold Shift or Ctrl and double click one unit. Deselect Remove one unit: Ctrl and shift left click the unit icon or the unit. Deselect one unit type: Hold Ctrl & shift click one unit.

The benchmark test (the performance test to test if your PC can handle the game) is easy to pass and if there was an option to only let in people who passed it then I believe there'd be much less lag in unranked lategame wars. People shouldn't be playing on these potato PCs anyway, the requirements for the game are not remotely high at all and if 1 player has a bad PC in multiplayer every player lags. I was playing a game the other day it was basically a slideshow because of just one person.

Ive noticed in a few games, that my units on occasion will use my buildings line of site instead of their own, to initiate an attack. I'll have spears 15+ tiles away from an enemy building with my building between them, and they will proactively move to attack it. It seems they are using the buildings LOS in addition to their own to trigger if its in range. Has anyone else experienced somethinglike this? Or am I just crazy? I am playing mapuche, with increased los. But it feels like they are more vigilant than they should be. Am I underestimating the team bonus?

In this video it would of selected the 2 villagers and scout. Size change of the circle selecting in settings. The best way to visualize this would be paint brush in Paint windows app.

Hello, I just want to share a fix in case somebody else struggles with this as well. I've had this problem for a few months and finally decided to wrestle with it. With help from LLMs and [a considerable amount of] motivational speaking on my part ( brother, we are engineers, we have all tools we need to solve this, nothing is impossible ) I finally found the solution. Problem: The game crashes to desktop (BugSplat) the moment you open the tech tree. Happened even with no mods, Low graphics, 1080p, even one monitor. Same patch as friends who were fine ( 180059 / Last Chieftains era), both in lobby and in game. Steam Verify integrity reported all files OK. Cause: Leftover JSON files that are not in the current Steam depot, so Verify never checks them. The exe still opens them if they exist. On my PC they were entirely null bytes. The tech tree parser (nlohmann JSON) throws, nothing catches it, process dies. The bad one that mattered: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\AoE2DE\resources\_common\dat\civTechTrees.json Mine was ~6.9 MB of 0x00 . Same story for: ...\AoE2DE\widgetui\dialogcivmenu.json ...\AoE2DE\resources\_common\dat\paphos_selection_group_def.json The real civ data is the folder of per-civ files ( dat\CivTechTrees\BRITONS.json etc.). Those were valid. The empty combined file sat on the old path and got parsed first. How to check: open civTechTrees.json in Notepad. If it is blank / huge and not starting with { , that is it. Fix: Close the game. Delete those three files (or move them aside). Do not put them back. Launch and open the tech tree. If it still crashes after they are gone, you have a different bug. If civTechTrees.json comes back as zeros, something on the machine is recreating an empty cache. P.S. I've been wondering how I got those files in the first place. I'm not sure, but a good guess is that I tried watching an old replay so I reverted to an older version of the game and then reverted back to the latest one. What's interesting is

With "Kotyan Khan", "The Grand Dukes", "Edward Longshanks" we have seen the other side of a campaign, this was taken to the extreme with 3K, now what story would you like to see from an enemy side? If I had to choose, I would go for Henry the Lion, taking advantage of the Saxons as a new civilization

Yay! Finally climbed to the 16xx after staying in 14xx for a while. I only play it for fun and never care about elo but still happy that I hit it. I am not sure what the improvement I made here— all I could think of is better decision making. Anyone here want to share their experience? What are the differences between 16xx to 14xx? And if I want to go from 16xx to 17xx and above, what improvements I should make based on your experience?

After trying to get all the archivements, I replayed the game in English (before I did it in Spanish) and Aristagora's voice is inspired in certain president that is very midiatic at the moment (and allways). Do you guys think so too?

Watching dragonstars video to learn scouts with franks. His setup looks so clean. I have some mods that hera shows in his videos but these ones make the game cleaner etc. can anyone please help on how can i get such tiny trees, grid and flat buildings in the image

I dont know if this is still in the game but let me know. Can we fix this and make them send the end cycle anywhere or at the center. Making them end the cycle in the left corner seems pretty badly designed. The way farmers farm should be improved for sure.

The shadows, building animation, and unit stand still animation would help performance. The shadows look weird and foggy. Aoe2 Hd edition had sharper shadows. Please fix définition ground, unit, and building shadows. Making them more realistic. The building animation are visually distracting. The blacksmith smoke could disappear entirely. Blacksmith could activate only when the blacksmith is working. Animation sync toggle. Would be pretty if the animations could move at different intervals (flags, mills, university, docks, fish, etc). Currently all these animations trigger and restart at the same time. Unit stand still animation could make units statues. What do you guys think about these? Any other improvements you want?

Many of the campaigns, from Age of Kings to The Last Chieftans are excellent scenarios reflecting historical battles (sometimes not that accurately) in a range of gameplay. However, there may be something in regards to a scenario that you may feel is not quite right. Is it gameplay or historical accuracy? The shadows would need some work. This is what it would look like to flip buildings. What do you guys think? Hard to recognize? You would be able to rotate the same way you rotate a gate. Aoe4(pastors), Aoem, and Aoe3 already can do this.

Maybe this is already well known. I stumbled on it accidentally because I didn’t realize the map started with a monastery. As a result, Armenians get a relic to start the game. The free 200ish gold collected by the time you hit Feudal Age makes fielding Longswords even easier, without committing significant vills to gold. The availability of fish in turn makes Castle Age times still reasonable. Not to mention being able to scout with the starting Mule Cart on the main land while keeping vills working. If naval support is needed, their gally-line is as good as any and the UT makes for fun demo opportunities. I’m honestly surprised I haven’t seen them more while it’s been in the team game pool.
